The suggested setting in gprc.dft is

  logfile = "~/tmp/pari-%d.%m"

Well, you can always improve on that:

  install(getpid, l)
  default(logfile, Str("~/tmp/pari-%d.%m." getpid()))

I'd rather have a very simple default (e.g pari.log), that works uniformly on
all platforms, but can easily be customized.
