Hi,
how about

? default(output,0)
output = 0 (raw)
? Str([1,2;3,4])
%1 = "[1, 2; 3, 4]"
? eval(%)
%2 = [1, 2; 3, 4]

That way you won't get prettymatrix output, if you don't
need it. ;)
