However... Well, I have managed to build PARI properly on a opteron running Debian, and I don't recall having any problems. I expect to get access to the box again sometime before the end of the year. I wonder if your gentoo box is not configured with strange compiler flags, since this bug normally only occur with Configure -g. The problem you report is well-know and I will fix it soon.
