No, everything was'nt fine : readline is disabled
in that copy of gp I just compiled,
although I've got the proper libraries for readline.

But I have no /usr/include/readline.h in this distribution.

Please, verify that you have
/usr/include/ncurses.h
and perhaps
/usr/include/curses.h
in your distribution.
