Plotting in PARI

Hello

I am a student using PARI/GP at university.  I am having difficulties 
plotting using the program.  Can anyone help, please?  Here are the 
details: I am using PARI/GP 2.1.4 compiled from source on SuSE Linux 8.0 
on an Intel based PC.  When I issue:

> \p 9
> ploth(X = -2, 2, sin(X^7))

I get an error message:
*** high resolution graphics disabled

What is going wrong?  How do I enable high resolution graphics?  Thank
